A young Paul Young

Like many, I became enamoured by Paul Young back in the early 80s. I loved his look and his brand of soul pop was my first taste of soul, albeit the blue eyed kind. He had great hits like “Come Back And Stay”, “Love Of The Common People” and a personal favourite, “Tomb Of Memories”. He had two brilliant albums including “The Secret Of Association”, one of my absolute favourite 80s albums.

I knew that before he hit the big time, Paul had been in a group called the Q-Tips but what I didn’t know was that before that he was in another group called Streetband and they actually had a chart hit with a novelty song called “Toast” in 1978. The best thing is that I just found a video clip for it on Youtube.

The clip (and song) is a lot of fun and features an uber-cute Paul Young in his early 20s. A totally different look than the one he adopted in the 80s. Check it out:
