Sharron Macready

YouTube is a weird and wonderful place and there is always something there to take you by surprise.

The Champions was one of my favourite TV shows from the 60s. It was one of those ITC espionage shows that we all loved but with a science fiction twist. The three main characters, Craig Stirling (played by Stuart Damon), Richard Barrett (played by William Gaunt) and the stunning Sharron Macready (played by the equally stunning Alexandra Bastedo). all have enhanced abilities (strength, ESP, etc) courtesy of some Himalayan monks.

I adored Sharron Macready, possibly more than, dare I say it, Emma Peel. Alexandra brought a lot of glamour and that je-ne-sais-quoi to the role. It seems that Sharron Macready is often over-looked so I was pleasantly surprised to find that some has put together a video tribute at YouTube. And here it is…

EDIT:

Bummer, embedding has been disabled. Here is the link:

Here is a tribute to the show in general which naturally contains a lot of shots of Sharron Macready.

If you think about it, it was a pretty cheap show. Everything was filmed in the UK – even though it was supposed to be around the world. Not a lot of special effects and nothing much really happened. The thing that sold it was the concept and the actors they chose to play the parts. You really liked them so you got right into it. It isn’t a classic of TV making, but it is a classic.
