I first discovered Dima Bilan, one of Russia’s biggest pop stars, in Eurovision 2006 when he came second with “Never Let You Go”. Last year, he won for Russia with “Believe”. He released a Russian album last year and announced plans to release English and Spanish versions of the album.
I have two of Dima’s Russian albums (which are very good) but have been hanging out for an album in English. Initially reports were that the album was going to be called “Against The Rules” (the translation of the Russian title) but no date or other details were ever given. I suspected that it would be released to coincide with this year’s Eurovision Song Contest and it turns out that thankfully this is the case. A Google search turned up a Timbaland blog which has the details.
The album is now going to be called “Believe” and is going to be more than just the English version of the Russian album. It comes out on 20 May and there will be a press conference to announce it on 13 May. The cover is above and is totally different to the Russian cover. Check out the article at the Timbland blog for the tracklisting.
The only thing I can’t find out is in which countries it is being released. It is supposed to be a worldwide release but record companies usually have a very narrow definition of “worldwide”.
