It felt like Christmas last week as I got my recent parcal of goodies from Megastore in Sweden. Yes, it’s that time of year, just after Melodifestivalen, when many Swedish artists use the show to launch their latest album.
I was actually quite restrained this year. I was so close to getting the new albums from Måns Zelmerlöw, Velvet and Shirley Clamp but decided to draw a line in the sand. It’s as Graeme says, I have so many CDs already. So I just ordered the six above plus one for Graeme.
Så gör jag det igen – Caroline af Ugglas
Caroline ended up being my favourite performer in this year’s Melodifestivalen so I had to get this, her new album. The title translates to “So I do it again”, probably a sneaky play on the fact that she came back to Melodifestivalen for a second time. A great album of Swedish stripped back soul.
Joplin på svenska – Caroline af Ugglas
Caroline has been described as Sweden’s answer to Janis Joplin so how could I resist an album of Janis songs sung in Swedish? The answer is, of course, that I couldn’t resist. It’s great to hear these classic songs sung by Caroline in Swedish.
Big Science – BWO
BWO are probably my favourite Swedish group and their new album does not diappoint. A slightly different sound from their previous album but still unmistakedly BWO. This album is a collection of powerful electro pop ballads which I just can’t stop playing. I like my music to be dramatic and this certainly is.
Dance Love Pop – The Love Love Love Edition – Agnes
Pure pop and I just love it. This is a special edition of the album that came out last year and features a bonus disc with her Melodifestivalen song, remixes and videos.
A double CD featuring studio versions of all 32 songs from this year’s Melodifestivalen. The standard was high this year so this makes for an excellent collection of Swedish pop.
Disco Defenders – Alcazar
Alcazar are back with a brilliant album of disco pop which will brighten up any party. It is always picks up my mood when I put it on. There is only one bad song, the ABBA pastiche called “Thank You”, but the rest of it is just great fun. There is a bonus CD of their greatest hits, which is a good way to reintroduce them.
A Finer Dawn – Sarah Dawn Finer
I already have this debut album from Sarah but I got it for Graeme who became a fan after this year’s Melodifestivalen. A great pop album from a great voice. Sarah is working on a second album due to come out later in the year. It’s a shame that it wasnt ready for Melodifestivalen but I guess I have plenty of other Swedish music to keep me going until this comes out. 🙂
