Carl Riseley was a contestant on Australian Idol 2007 who eventually came third. He was the trumpet playing sailor with the penchant for swing and jazz music.
Carl was a relative newcomer to singing but he had/has a really nice, sounding voice, good looks and a charming, down-to-earth personality – someone you could sit down and have a beer with. Plus I liked his style of music. Another thing I really liked and respected about Carl was that he was upfront from episode one about the style of music he loved and wanted to record. He stuck with his style despite criticism from the Idol judges. You could tell by the end of his run on the show that the judges admired him for his showmanship and his ability to learn and develop.
Ironically, the winner and runner-up of Australian Idol 2007 still have not released proper albums of their own but Carl is about to unleash his second album on 24 April 2009 – “The Stillest Hour”. The album will be a mixture of original songs and standards.
What got me excited on this overcast Sunday morning was that the video clip for the title track has been released and what a beautiful song it is. And here it is:
