Even though I like to think that as I get older, my musical tastes are maturing (and they are, honestly) there are still times that a pop or dance tune comes along that has me jumping around my lounge room like a teenage girl.
Here’s one I discovered this morning. Swedish singer Elin Lanto has a new single out in Sweden called “Discotheque”. I loved her Melodifestivalen entry in 2007 called “Money” so I thought I would check it out on YouTube. And wow, what a song. It seems criminal that it is only 3 minutes long and there is no 8 minute club mix. Maybe one will come out later.
The next song is sensational, Sonny J took an obscure 50s song called “If You Hold My Hand” by Donna Hightower, beefed it up and added a camp sci fi clip to produce “Handsfree (If You Hold My Hand)”.
The final in today’s trio is called “Disco Lies” by Moby with vocals by Shayna Steele. This is a great one to dance to, especially since the Freemason remixed it for the single release. The clip doesn’t really match the song (except for the occasional cuts to Shayna being a fab 70s disco diva) and is a satirical dig at KFC and their treatment of chickens.
