Welcome to my blog…

This is my first blog. I really don’t know what to say at the moment but I’m hoping this is something that will grow and develop.

It’s been in the back of my mind for a while now that I should write a blog. It wasn’t just that everyone else was doing one, just the thought of writing down my observations and experiences that appealed. A couple of recent things prompted me to actually get started on a blog.

Firstly, I have recently started writing my own personal journal. This is a “my eyes only” journal that allows me to get my thoughts down on paper, better deal with issues and dilemmas, better understand myself, increase my powers of observation and be a little creative at the same time. I have found it to be quite therapeutic as well as fun. I see the blog as complementing my journal.

If you are interested in journal writing, a good book to kick you off is Creative Journal Writing: The Art And Heart Of Reflection by Stephanie Dowrick. Stephanie also has her own website at www.stephaniedowrick.com that is worth checking out.

The second thing to prompt me is my forthcoming visit to Stockholm, Sweden. Anyone who knows me will also know that I love Stockholm. It’s my favourite city in the world. I first visited back in 1986 and fell in love with the place and the people. Between 1993 and 2004, I was a regular visitor and even lived there for 18 months back in 1999/2000 – an amazing experience.

I haven’t been to Sweden since 2004, which is the longest period of time since 1993. I have been homesick for Stockholm for a while now but due to a number of factors (including a major change in employment, lack of funds and no holiday leave), I have not been able to visit. Until now that is. I’m known for doing crazy things sometimes on the spur of the moment so I decided on a quick visit to my favourite city to see one of my dearest friends and also see my favourite singer, Peter Jöback in concert. I have taken a week off work for my lightning visit which will be so quick, I won’t have time for jet lag! It has given me something to look forward to and get excited about, as well as another reason for writing a blog.

I will leave it there for now. It’s late and I’m tired. *yawn* Catch you later.

Hey Grant, Good to have another Frida fan starting a blog. I had one for a while but the website owner changed it so much…even I couldn’t find myself any more. Pretty bad when you can find yourself! Almost like: “Help, I’ve fallen & I can’t seem to find ABBA!” The Frida picture is from the Aven En Blooma video isn’t it? Looks like it anyway. A great pensive shot. Anyway, you write whatever comes to mind & we’ll fill you up with comments. Welcome to the Wooooorld Wiiiiiide “Blog-o-sphere!”

The Frida picture at the top of the blog was from a magazine photoshoot taken at the time of Frida’s comeback in 1996. I love the simplicity and starkness of the shot and it shows Frida being reflective and at one with nature. It seemed appropriate for a blog. Yes, I could have used a photo of myself but if you want to see that just go to the About Grant page.

    Thanks for the comments guys.
